A flare of class M was recorded on the Sun.
A powerful flare occurred on the Sun. The flare reached class M1.6 in terms of X-ray radiation. It was recorded at 22:33 Riga time. The duration of the phenomenon was forty minutes.
Previously, scientists discovered a large active region on the Sun. High activity in this area has been observed since January 8 — it is difficult to register the exact number of flares that occurred in this region since the beginning of the year, as it was initially located on the far side of the star. Another plasma ejection in this area occurred on Monday, January 12 — the recorded flare of class M3.3 became the strongest since the beginning of 2026.
Overall, the current year will be rich in magnetic storms. The strongest X-class flares, according to specialists' forecasts, will occur approximately every two months. However, powerful magnetic storms are not expected in the near future.
