Pig kidneys may soon replace human ones in transplants, and moreover, they will be even better in quality. This is reported by the foreign publication Guardian, citing the director of Langone Health medical center and surgeon Robert Montgomery.

Experts are confident that genetic modification significantly reduces the risk of rejection for humans receiving such organs.

"The first transplant in the trials has already been conducted, and the next one is scheduled for January," the article added.

It is expected that six patients will receive pig organs that have been genetically edited in 10 places to reduce the risk of rejection.

If the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves further expansion of the trials, another 44 people are planned to receive pig kidney transplants.
