Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from the French studio Sandfall Interactive was recognized as the Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025. The event recording is available on YouTube.
Sandfall Interactive's debut game not only received the main award but also won eight additional awards, including "Best RPG," "Best Narrative," "Best Art Direction," and others. The game was nominated in a total of 12 categories. The title broke the record of Baldur’s Gate 3, which won eight awards at The Game Awards in 2023.
The Community Award, with the winner chosen by voting, went to Wuthering Waves. Hades II was named Best Action, Hollow Knight: Silksong as Best Action-Adventure, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves as Best Fighting, Donkey Kong Bananza as Best Family Game, Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles as Best Strategy or Simulation, Mario Kart World as Best Sports or Racing Game, and Umamusume: Pretty Derby as Best Mobile Game.
Additionally, the best online game according to the TGA jury was recognized as ARC Raiders, and the best esports game was Counter-Strike 2. The best esports athlete was Chovy, and the best team was Team Vitality.
Several new games were also announced at the event — Resident Evil Requiem, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, Exodus, Control: Resonant, Tomb Raider Catalyst, Divinity, and others.
In 2024, the Game of the Year according to The Game Awards was named Astro Bot. The event also announced "The Witcher 4," Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, Mafia: The Old Country, and Elden Ring Nightreign.
