Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovich says that measures to curb smuggling via balloons from Belarus are planned in the near future regarding communication blocking.
According to him, this concerns the unification of certain rules, as different operators use different rules for the distribution of SIM cards: some are stricter, while others are more liberal: “And we see that there are people who buy cards in significant quantities, and yes, anything can happen.”
According to the minister, the issue of SIM card distribution is relevant not only due to smuggling balloons.
“And there are special ‘farms’, namely what are called ‘SIM boxes’. More than one such device has already been discovered in Lithuania; our last operation found that over 20,000 SIM cards were used specifically for such ‘bot farms’, so to speak. This problem is broader than smuggling balloons. But we really need to update the entire situation, the policy, and find solutions that would not harm our residents,” said Kondratovich.
