Beijing intends to implement the ambitious lunar project in collaboration with Moscow.
Recently, the crew of the Shenzhou-20 mission completed an unprecedented space journey, spending 204 days at the Tiangong space station. Three Chinese astronauts – Chen Dong, Wang Jie, and Chen Zhongrui – set a new national record for the duration of a space flight.
The mission, which launched on April 24, was initially planned to conclude on November 5. However, technical difficulties, presumably caused by a collision with space debris, required additional preparation and checks of the descent capsule.
The Shenzhou-20 mission was the ninth expedition to the Tiangong station and the fifteenth crewed flight of China. This success demonstrates the growing potential of the Chinese space program and its commitment to long-term orbital exploration.
The future of Chinese astronautics is focused on lunar exploration (with a manned landing by 2030), the creation of a lunar station in collaboration with Russia, as well as distant missions to asteroids and Jupiter. In the field of near-Earth astronautics, China is developing its Tiangong orbital station and reusable transport systems, as well as planning the creation of large satellite constellations and orbital solar power stations.
Space Exploration
Moon: The creation of an International Scientific Lunar Station in collaboration with Russia and other countries is planned. The Chang'e-7 and Chang'e-8 missions will explore the resources of the Moon's South Pole and test extraction technologies.
Mars and asteroids: Within the Tianwen program, missions to asteroids (sample return from the Kamoʻoalewa asteroid) and to Jupiter are planned.
Interstellar flights: China is considering sending a probe into interstellar space.
