The free inspection of DPF filters for diesel cars under the auspices of CSDD showed dismal results: 55% of vehicles had malfunctions.
What did the inspection reveal? Every second diesel engine has problems with the particulate filter, which is designed to minimize harmful emissions from diesel fuel. It is either damaged, not functioning, or completely absent. It is no secret that often diesel owners prefer to simply cut it out in order to pass the technical inspection, taking advantage of the fact that until recently it was practically impossible to check this during the inspection.
What does such statistics indicate? First of all, that more than half of the cars will not pass the technical inspection when the new regulations come into effect. There are good reasons to believe that these figures reflect the overall statistics for the country.
And there is not much time left to wait. Starting in January, if the concentration of solid particles in a vehicle's exhaust exceeds the permissible limit during the technical inspection, the CSDD will give the car owner only one month to rectify the identified defect. If not resolved, consider the vehicle out of service. The car will not be able to participate in road traffic.
And, apparently, this is the scenario that awaits thousands and thousands of Latvian drivers. According to CSDD data, two-thirds, or 66%, of cars in Latvia are equipped with diesel engines. In numbers, this is 520,000 passenger cars, half of whose owners need to prepare for significant expenses to solve the problem. After all, replacing the filter can easily cost two or even three thousand euros, not including the cost of labor at the service station. And the most frustrating thing is that its replacement does not guarantee that the problem is solved...
