On Friday, May 22, the Port of Riga will welcome the German cruise liner Mein Schiff Relax from TUI Cruises for the first time. This is not only the largest ship of the current season but also the biggest cruise liner to ever dock in the capital of Latvia.
Due to the ship's dimensions - a length of 333 meters, a width of 42 meters, and a gross tonnage of 160,000 GT - it will be docked at the Krievu Sala piers. The 19-deck giant will bring approximately 4,000 passengers and 1,000 crew members to Riga.
Mein Schiff Relax is a brand new vessel in the TUI Cruises fleet, commissioned in 2025. It is currently one of the most modern ships in the European market, thanks to its premium relaxation area and eco-friendly technical solutions.
Overall, the Port of Riga is expecting a record cruise season. The schedule includes 101 ship calls - a 21% increase compared to 2025. It is forecasted that the total tourist flow to Riga by sea will amount to around 135,000 people, exceeding last year's figures by 17%.
As this is the first visit of Mein Schiff Relax to Riga, a traditional ceremony of exchanging coats of arms will take place on board the liner on Friday at 9:00 AM. Riga's mayor, Viesturs Kleinbergs, and the manager of the Port of Riga, Ansis Zeltiņš, will officially welcome the captain and crew of the ship.
