Apple Corporation will create a unique camera for the iPhone 20 smartphone. This was reported by the well-known insider under the nickname yeux1122.

In 2027, Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 20, which will be released in the year marking the 20th anniversary of the brand's first smartphone. Specialist yeux1122 revealed that in honor of this occasion, the device will receive a significant upgrade. For the first time, Apple will equip the device's camera with a sensor of its own production.

The report states that Apple engineers are working on the LOFIC sensor. This is an abbreviation for Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor — an integrated capacitor with lateral overflow. This technology will allow for a significant expansion of the dynamic range of images without the need to merge multiple photos with different exposures into a single HDR image.

Similar LOFIC sensors are being developed by specialists from Chinese companies Xiaomi, Honor, Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo. Since the release of the first iPhone, Apple has used cameras from third-party manufacturers in its smartphones.

Insider yeux1122 concluded that the iPhone 20 will appear in 2027. However, the first smartphones featuring the LOFIC sensor will be released in 2026.

Previously, China Times reported that Apple will have to raise prices for the iPhone in 2026. Future smartphones in the iPhone 18 series are expected to receive the A20 processor. It is believed that it will be created by TSMC and will be the first chip designed using a 2-nanometer process technology. It will also serve as the basis for M6 processors. Insiders believe that its cost will be significantly higher than that of the A19, which will force Apple to raise smartphone prices.

Sources have revealed that TSMC informed its partners that 2-nanometer chips will be at least 50 percent more expensive than their 3-nanometer counterparts. The production is associated with unusually high capital expenditures, and TSMC will not be able to supply equipment at a discount — not even to Apple. Likely due to the rising production costs, the American corporation will have to increase iPhone prices.

The report states that A20 chips could cost $280 each. In 2024, DigiTimes sources reported that A18 chips used in the iPhone 16 cost only $45. If these figures are accurate, processors for the iPhone have increased in price by more than six times in two years.

The authors of China Times believe that Apple is highly likely to raise smartphone prices in 2026. It may also equip only the flagship models iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max with the latest 2-nanometer processors.
