Google will verify the age of Android users to protect against adult content.

Google will check the user's age before downloading applications on Android. This was reported by the founder of the Android Police portal, Artem Russakovskii.

According to the specialist, this feature has appeared for a number of users on Google Play — the official app store for Android. Thus, the company intends to restrict underage smartphone owners from programs containing adult content.

Russakovskii explained that Google Play may offer several ways to verify age — using an ID, which is the equivalent of a passport in the U.S., sending a selfie, entering credit card details, and using special trusted services.

Previously, a similar verification was launched for Google Search and YouTube. The specialist explained that many may not be required to undergo verification if Google has confirmed data about their age. In this case, the user will see a notification on the "Google Account" page stating, "You don’t need to do anything. Age verification is not required for your Google account. You can close this window."
