The Task Manager in Windows is broken — the program has stopped closing.
Microsoft has reported an issue with the Task Manager that slows down Windows. This was reported by Windows Latest.
The Task Manager is a program that allows users to manage applications and processes running in the operating system (OS). Due to the discovered issue, the proprietary utility may continue to run in the background even after the user has closed it.
Media specialists explained that due to the broken Task Manager, the speed of Windows can noticeably drop. Journalists confirmed that the service can indeed fail to close. As an experiment, they opened and closed the Task Manager on a test computer 500 times. Then in the same Task Manager, they saw 500 processes of taskmgr.exe, responsible for running programs.
"These active processes consume system resources and can affect the device's performance," Microsoft warned. The problem persists until the computer is turned off or restarted — the processes continue to "hang in the background."
Windows Latest journalists emphasized that the issue is relevant for the new version of Windows 11 KB5067036. This update also introduced a new Start menu in the OS.
At the end of October, Microsoft fixed a bug that prevented Windows from shutting down the PC after an update. Due to the issue, the device would reboot and start up again.
