Apple will have to disable advertising protection on iPhones due to pressure from the European Union.

Apple may disable its tracking protection feature in European Union (EU) countries due to pressure from authorities. This was reported by DPA International.

App Tracking Transparency (ATT) is a privacy feature that first appeared in iOS 14. It allows users to limit apps from collecting their data for advertising purposes. At the end of October, Apple stated that the company is facing significant pressure in Europe and may disable this feature on iPhones.

In a statement to DPA, Apple mentioned that the corporation is under "intensive lobbying efforts" in Germany, Italy, and other EU countries. According to company executives, stakeholders are drawing the attention of antitrust authorities to ATT. "These efforts may force us to remove this feature to the detriment of European consumers," Apple noted.

Journalists reminded that in February, Germany's Federal Cartel Office stated that ATT could violate the rights of app developers. Critics of Apple claimed that the company restricts the collection of advertising data by third-party apps but encourages tracking for its own services.

In August, the UK withdrew its claims against Apple, which demanded the corporation disclose users' personal data. According to U.S. National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, the pressure on Apple ceased after productive communication between British and American authorities.
