The car has been brought to a level where it seems the car is testing the limits of physics.
Earlier in 2025, Elon Musk stated that Tesla would conduct the "most epic demonstration" of the Roadster at the end of the year. The fourth quarter has already begun, time is running out, so on the Ride the Lightning podcast, the company's chief designer Franz von Holzhausen finally shared a long-awaited update.
The Roadster remains one of the most anticipated electric vehicles in the industry and was originally supposed to be released back in 2020. However, Tesla became so engrossed in scaling production of the Model Y and developing autonomous systems that the Roadster project was pushed to the back burner.
Company executives, including Musk and von Holzhausen, have only hinted at the car's features and fueled interest with potential release dates that were postponed each time.
Last year, Tesla planned to showcase something, but Musk, seeing improvements over the original 2017 design, decided that the company could go further, and the project was delayed again by a year.
This year, Musk spoke again about the "most epic demonstration," and yesterday von Holzhausen confirmed that the show is still planned. He also lifted the veil on new features of the Roadster, including new color options.
The designer noted that the capabilities of the electric vehicle are indeed impressive, and it has been brought to a level where it seems the car is testing the limits of physics. Franz added that Tesla has "achieved the standard it set for itself."
It is clear that the Roadster will not be a key product for Tesla's mission or its future, which is primarily focused on artificial intelligence, robotaxis, and autonomous technologies. Nevertheless, it is an important product, as many buyers have made significant deposits of $250,000 to reserve the electric vehicle.
Tesla has not yet announced an exact date for the Roadster demonstration, but based on von Holzhausen's interview, the company still plans to hold it by the end of the year.
