Sources of green energy, including solar energy, are gradually gaining popularity in countries around the world.

Coal, gas, and oil remain the most popular sources of electricity in the world, but some countries are beginning to rely on renewable energy. The infographic clearly shows which sources of electricity are most common in each country.

As noted by Dewesoft, traditional sources of electricity continue to be actively used worldwide. For example, gas is the backbone of energy in countries such as Russia, the USA, Italy, Israel, Japan, and the UK.

Coal is most popular in China, South Korea, Mongolia, the Czech Republic, and Australia. Oil is the primary source of electricity for Estonia, Hong Kong, Niger, Syria, and Puerto Rico. In several countries, such as France and Finland, nuclear energy is predominantly used.

Some countries are gradually starting to turn to renewable energy sources. Hydropower is one of the most frequently used renewable sources. It is in demand in countries such as Norway, Switzerland, Romania, Tajikistan, and North Korea.

Wind energy is another popular renewable source. It is most actively used in Denmark, Germany, and Luxembourg.

Other resources include biomass (organic materials such as wood, biogas, ethanol, and biodiesel) and geothermal energy. They are used in both developing countries and countries that want to avoid carbon dioxide emissions from traditional fossil fuels.
