The Cheapest Tesla Electric Cars Have Been Released

Tesla has released its cheapest electric cars - starting at $38,600.

Tesla Corporation has introduced its cheapest electric cars. This was noted by The Verge.

The company announced the release of the Model 3 Standard liftback and the Model Y Standard crossover. These are not new cars, but simplified versions of popular Tesla models. However, the base versions of the Model 3 and Model Y are priced at a record low — $38,600 and $41,600, respectively.

Both vehicles feature an electric motor capable of accelerating the car to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.8 seconds, with a range of about 840 kilometers. A quick 15-minute charge provides a range of 240 kilometers. To reduce the cost of the models, Tesla had to forgo several features present in the base versions of the cars. These include a panoramic roof, front and rear light bars, a display for the second-row seats, and ambient lighting around the door area. Additionally, the cars do not have power-adjustable mirrors — they will need to be adjusted manually.

Journalists noted that Tesla CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly promised to release a cheap electric car priced around $25,000 (2 million rubles). However, Musk himself has sabotaged its development in favor of other projects — including a self-driving taxi. "Tesla had the opportunity to completely change the game. Instead, it is betting on something familiar," concluded the authors of The Verge.
