Microsoft: OneDrive and visual effects can slow down PC performance.
Microsoft has revealed the Windows features that can slow down the operating system (OS). This was noted by the publication Neowin.
The company pointed out that the performance of computers running Windows can be affected by the operation of the OneDrive cloud storage. "OneDrive synchronizes files by default. This allows you to access files from any device connected to the internet," Microsoft specialists noted the advantages of the cloud. However, they acknowledged that during synchronization, the computer may run slower. Users were advised to temporarily disable synchronization and compare the device's performance — with OneDrive and without this service.
Additionally, visual effects of the OS can further burden the personal computer (PC). "Windows includes many visual effects, such as animations and shadow effects. They look great, but they can also consume additional system resources and slow down the computer's performance," the company's engineers explained. It was recommended to disable visual effects on PCs with limited RAM.
In exceptional cases, the speed of the computer can be increased with the ReadyBoost feature — it uses a USB drive to work with cache memory.
