On Thursday morning, the government internet sites of Latvia were subjected to a large-scale denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, representatives of the State Joint Stock Company "Latvian State Radio and Television Centre" (LVRTC) told the LETA agency.
As a result, there were disruptions in the operation of websites such as the State Revenue Service website "vid.gov.lv", the portal "Latvija.lv", the Cabinet of Ministers website "mk.gov.lv", as well as the websites of ministries, municipalities, and other government institutions.
Users also had no access to the website "eParaksts.lv".
On Thursday, around midday, the operation of government internet sites was restored.
LVRTC indicated that currently, the operation of all resources affected by the attack has been fully restored.
The affected websites were unavailable for about an hour, while some resources were down for about an hour and 20 minutes. Thus, some resources were accessible but were operating slowly, LVRTC explained.
Currently, the analysis of the attack is ongoing. After the investigation is completed, LVRTC will provide more detailed comments on the cyberattack that occurred.
Representatives of the IT security incident prevention institution Cert.lv informed the LETA agency that they are in close contact with LVRTC and are determining the true causes of the attack.
