The Latvian men's ice hockey team had an excellent first period in the final match of the group stage of the World Championship against Hungary.
After the first 20 minutes of play in Zurich, the Latvians lead 3:0.
The start of the match was tense. Just six and a half minutes in, Sandis Vilmanis received a two-minute penalty, and the Latvian team had to defend while short-handed.
In one episode, goalkeeper Kristers Gudlevskis saved the team by deflecting the puck with his mask. The Latvians held on and did not allow their opponents to capitalize on the power play.
