Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal announced that he received an honorary doctorate from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
“I will fondly remember this day. Throughout my career, I have received various awards, but awards from the academic world hold a special significance for me, as they represent respect from institutions dedicated to knowledge, education, and the progress of society.
I would like to thank the Polytechnic University of Madrid for awarding me this honorary doctorate, which I accepted with great joy,” the athlete wrote on social media.
Nadal announced his retirement in November 2024. The 39-year-old tennis player has 22 Grand Slam titles to his name. He is also a two-time Olympic champion: he won in singles in 2008 and in doubles in 2016.
