Verstappen on the qualifying crash: “This has never happened in my career”

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen noted that he cannot name the cause of his crash in the qualifying session of the Australian Grand Prix.

The four-time world champion crashed his car in the first segment — while braking before the first corner, the car lost its trajectory and crashed into the barriers.

“I hit the brakes, and the rear axle of the car suddenly locked up completely for no reason. I don’t know why or how this happened. This has never happened to me in my entire career,” Verstappen said, according to the Formula 1 press service.

The Dutchman noted that at such high speeds, it was impossible to save the car.

“The impact with the barrier wasn’t too hard, but the steering wheel was ripped from my hands, so I had to check in at the medical center just in case. But I’m fine,” he added.

The qualifying session was won by Mercedes driver George Russell, with his teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli finishing second, and another Red Bull driver Isaac Adjar taking third. Verstappen will start the race, which will take place on March 8, from the 20th position.
