Dozens of sanitary facilities have been damaged in the Winter Olympic village in Milan, reports the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, according to LETA citing DPA.
According to the police, from mid-December to mid-January, 70 shower facilities were damaged in three different buildings for accommodating athletes.
Access to the newly built village was generally possible only with special passes and a QR code.
The police suspect that various cutting tools were used. The newspaper reports that the incident was only discovered after damage to the water supply system was found.
The anti-terrorism unit of the Milan prosecutor's office has also joined the investigation.
The police hope to get answers through surveillance camera footage.
The two-week Winter Olympic Games will open on Friday.
