In addition to the Winter Olympics starting on February 6, sports experts highlight several other events.
UFC Tournament at the White House
A few years ago, sports promoter Dana White mentioned that he wanted a UFC event in some "incredible place." His dreams have come true: this summer, fighters from the organization will compete right on the grounds of the White House. White proposed this event to Donald Trump in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
What is known so far:
The event is being organized by Ivanka Trump.
Who will fight? There are no specifics yet, but everything will be decided soon. Some well-known fighters are dropping hints. For example, Conor McGregor, who hasn’t fought since 2021, hinted at a match with Michael Chandler. However, White dismissed that option. Instead, he intrigued:
"We literally just finished working out all the logistics — how to organize everything, how many people we can accommodate. About five thousand people will be able to attend live on the White House lawn. And across the street is a park — I think it’s called the Ellipse — where we can accommodate up to 85 thousand people.
We will have large screens, a stage, and music playing throughout the day. Essentially, we will take over all of Washington for that week, hosting a variety of events for fans. And, of course, it will be a unique event. Fighters will walk to the octagon right from the Oval Office."
FIFA World Cup
In 2026, from June 11 to July 19, it will take place for the first time since 2002, not in one country, but in several. At the beginning of the 21st century, the World Cup was hosted by South Korea and Japan. Now, it will be held in three countries: the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
This tournament will be super-sized in terms of the number of participants. From 1998 to 2022, 32 teams attended the World Cup. Now, there will be 48.
16 cities and 16 different stadiums will host the 2026 World Cup. The tournament will kick off in Mexico City, where South Africa and Mexico will play at the Azteca Stadium. The final match will take place at MetLife Stadium in New York.
The spectacle promises to be grand, unless, of course, one of the football giants announces a boycott of this tournament, which is being discussed amid disputes over Greenland...
