The winner of the 1972 Olympic Games in hammer throw, Anatoly Bondarchuk, has died at the age of 86.

Bondarchuk died in the Canadian city of Kamloops. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

At the 1972 Olympic Games, Bondarchuk won with an Olympic record. He also won a bronze medal at the 1976 Olympics, gold at the European Championship (1969), and was a four-time champion of the USSR.

At the 1980 and 1988 Olympic Games, he was the coach of the USSR national team in hammer throw.
