Ukrainian drones are increasingly entering the Baltic states and Finland as a result of Kyiv's strikes on targets in Northwestern Russia. As Finnish journalists discovered, Ukraine does not warn anyone about these attacks.
The threat of drones entering the country's airspace on the night of Friday affected not only Finland but also Estonia and Latvia. Latvia, like Finland, warned its residents about the threat of drones.
In Finland, experts suggested that the country might have received information about potential drone incursions into Finnish territory from Ukraine. However, representatives of the authorities in Estonia and Latvia told the Finnish media Yle that Ukraine does not provide such advance warnings.
The Latvian Ministry of Defense stated that the country does not receive and does not require warnings from Kyiv about attacks on Russia.
In a statement from the Estonian Defense Forces to Yle, it was mentioned that Ukraine does not give NATO countries advance warnings about possible drone approaches to the alliance's airspace. Instead, Estonia and Latvia shared information about the drone threat with Finland themselves.
The head of the strategic communications department of the Estonian Defense Forces, Colonel Uku Arold, noted in an interview with Estonian radio ERR that NATO countries do not have a unified standard for issuing warnings about threats. Arold added that in Estonia, the danger was not high enough to warn the population.
