On Tuesday, Arturs Niklavs Medveds set a new record for Latvia in the 10-kilometer run, reports the Latvian Athletics Federation (LAAF), according to LETA.
The athlete finished second in the competition in the Polish capital, Warsaw, with a time of 28 minutes 27 seconds, improving his own previous record for Latvia by 41 seconds.
The victory in the Bieg Niepodległości ("Independence Run") was claimed by Belgian Klemens Deflandre, who finished one second faster. Frenchman Florian Le Palec took third place, crossing the finish line in 29 minutes and 25 seconds.
This year, a record number of participants took part in the traditional race — over 18,000 runners.
