The world’s third-ranked player from the USA and two-time Grand Slam champion Cori Gauff defeated fellow American Jessica Pegula in the final of the WTA 1000 hard court event in Wuhan — 6:4, 7:5.
For Gauff, this is her ninth consecutive winning final at a hard court tournament. She is the first in the Open Era to win her first nine finals on hard courts.
Gauff also became the first female tennis player since the legendary American Serena Williams to win nine or more hard court finals in a row (12 finals from 2013 to 2015).
The title in Wuhan became the 11th of 21-year-old Gauff's career and her second in 2025 after the French Open.
