Latvian tennis player Jelena Ostapenko, in partnership with Taiwanese athlete Su-Wei Hsieh, reached the semifinals of the doubles competition at the "WTA 1000" tournament in Beijing on Friday, reports LETA.
Ostapenko and Hsieh, seeded fourth in the tournament, defeated Slovakian Teresa Mihalikova and British Olivia Nicholls in the quarterfinals with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
For reaching the semifinals, Ostapenko earned 390 ranking points in the WTA doubles standings.
In the battle for a spot in the final, Ostapenko and Hsieh will face Italian players Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, who are seeded second.
It is worth noting that both Jelena Ostapenko and Anastasija Sevastova ended their singles campaigns in the second round.
The "WTA 1000" tournament in Beijing is being held on hard courts.
