To strengthen the potential of internal affairs services, additional human resources are necessary, as well as the development of infrastructure and the implementation of technological solutions, emphasized President Edgars Rinkēvičs during a meeting at the Riga Castle with Minister of the Interior Jānis Dombrovskis.
As reported to the LETA agency by the president's advisor Mārtiņš Drēgeris, the meeting discussed the priorities of the minister's work in the area of internal state security.
As the president pointed out, it is important for society to trust the internal affairs services, which are the first to respond in various crisis situations. Both firefighters and rescuers, as well as police officers and border guards, strengthen the security of the state daily through their professional work and dedication, Rinkēvičs noted.
The meeting also discussed the improvement of the civil defense system, including the construction of shelters, modernization and expansion of the alarm siren network, especially in the eastern border regions, algorithms for notifications via the mobile network, and technological improvements to the 112.lv website and application.
The president urged the Minister of the Interior to actively cooperate with local government leaders to form a unified understanding of the tasks of civil defense commissions and the responsibilities of local governments. Rinkēvičs also called for close dialogue between the ministry and the owners of critical infrastructure when planning security measures.
