The head of the White House does not smoke, does not drink coffee, and abstains from alcohol.
Trump has never hidden his eating habits — he prefers fast food, bacon and eggs, ice cream, and Diet Coke. Throughout the day, he often snacks on Oreo cookies, chips, and salty pretzels.
He often skips breakfast, and if he eats, he chooses bacon and eggs. Lunch is also not a mandatory meal for him. His typical dinner, according to descriptions from his former staff, may consist of two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, and a chocolate milkshake.
His preference for McDonald's and other fast food chains is linked to Trump's well-known germophobia — a fear of germs. Biographers of the businessman and politician have written that he believes buying pre-prepared meals is safer, as they cannot be intentionally spoiled or poisoned, knowing the customer.
Trump also does not smoke, does not drink coffee, and abstains from alcohol. The New York billionaire has previously linked his personal prohibition against alcohol to his brother Fred's harmful addiction to alcoholic beverages, who died at the age of 42.
Some media outlets note that Trump's habit of taking long breaks between meals resembles intermittent fasting, which in several studies is associated with improved metabolism and cognitive functions.
During his first presidential campaign, staff noted that Trump sometimes went without food for up to 16 hours a day. However, it is unlikely that the president consciously adheres to such a regime for health benefits.
Trump's latest medical examination (the third in the last 13 months) at the end of May revealed that his "vascular age" is 14 years younger than his actual age. According to White House doctors, cognitive functions also remain normal: mental abilities were assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment — a ten-minute test that detects signs of dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and other disorders. Trump scored the maximum result — 30 out of 30 possible points.
Former White House physician Ronny Jackson explained Trump's health as "excellent genes."
"It's called genetics. Some people just have great genes. I told the president that if he had followed a healthier diet for 20 years, he might have lived to 200 years," Jackson stated following Trump's medical examination in 2018.
The president also often emphasizes that his longevity and success are primarily due to heredity. During a campaign event in Minnesota in 2020, Trump mentioned the theory of racehorses, according to which breeding certain stallions and mares can produce stronger offspring. Even before his first term, Trump claimed to possess the "winner's gene."
Some criticize Trump for his inclination towards eugenic ideas, but experts point out that certain genetic variants can indeed reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, and other dangerous illnesses.
It is known that Trump's parents lived quite long lives. His father, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, died of pneumonia at the age of 93. At the same time, he apparently managed to avoid cancer and serious cardiovascular diseases. The president's mother died at the age of 88. The official cause of her death was not reported, and the only known illness was osteoporosis.
