Former Constitutional Court judge Gunars Kusinš on how to choose parties and candidates for deputies.

Former Constitutional Court judge and former head of the Saeima's legal bureau Gunars Kusinš shared his "recipe" for voting in elections in an interview with Latvian Radio. "Study, as it is fashionable to say now, the 'credit history' of both the parties and the politicians themselves - what they have done in the past. When evaluating candidates for deputies, I would follow three criteria. First, does the candidate for deputy advocate for government accountability to the Saeima? If someone supports an authoritarian regime, history shows us that it has never led to anything good.

Secondly, does the candidate for deputy support budget transparency? We already have a relatively small budget, and we cannot allow it to be misappropriated.

And the third criterion is how important human rights compliance is for the candidate for deputy," noted the prominent lawyer.
