Starting Monday, Latvian politics will not be boring.
The upcoming week promises to be very heated in political terms. This is understandable - there is less and less time until the elections, and the situation in the government is almost dire. Already on Monday at 13:00, the Minister of Defense is scheduled to appear 'on the carpet' before the Prime Minister. There is a possibility that Andris Spruds will lose the defense minister portfolio... But, as they say, we will live and see. It is obvious that the topic of the authorities' response to incidents involving drones will be discussed by both summits later at the coalition council.
The next day, even before the government meeting, Evika Silina will hold a meeting of the thematic committee on Latvia's issues. Officials will surely discuss how regular drone arrivals will affect the region's economy...
At the same time, in the Saeima, members of the Defense and Internal Affairs Committee will continue preparing a new immigration bill for adoption in the third (final) reading.
In the Economic Affairs Committee, parliamentarians will discuss another language amendment proposed by the National Alliance - this time to the Road Traffic Law. The deputies want to prohibit driving schools (private entrepreneurs) from teaching driving in Russian. The prepared amendment states that entrepreneurs are entitled to teach only in the state language, as well as in the official languages of the EU and the European Economic Area.
