From state defense service to fuel reserves.
Whatever else, we know how to write reports! You read them and get the impression that officials have resolved or are about to resolve all existing problems in the country or in a specific area. In any case, this is precisely the realm of professional eloquence and persuasiveness, and the report from the Ministry of Defense on the progress in creating a comprehensive defense system. The multi-page report will be reviewed at the upcoming government meeting on Tuesday, May 5.
The report details achievements in all elements (links) of this comprehensive defense system - starting with the exercises of the National Armed Forces and the National Guard, and ending with lessons in patriotism and military training in schools.
The report also discusses training local government employees to act in crisis situations, cybersecurity, the restoration and construction of new shelters (bomb shelters), the strengthening of eastern borders, and the creation of a counter-mobility system - that is, obstacles to the movement of a potential enemy.
"Part of the comprehensive defense of the state is the strengthening of the eastern border, which is being carried out to protect all residents of Latvia. In 2025, several organized meetings were held by the Ministry of Defense with the heads and residents of border municipalities to clarify the conditions of the law on the creation of counter-mobility infrastructure and to answer residents' questions. On July 16, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense met with representatives of several border municipalities, on September 17 - with the leadership and residents of the Ludza County municipality, as well as with the residents of Kraslava. On August 14, the Minister of Defense met with the heads of municipalities in Latgale in Preili, and in Dagda - with the residents of Kraslava County. On September 25, the Minister of Defense visited the Balvi County, and on October 24 - Zilupe and Ludza; during these visits, residents were informed about the aspects of strengthening the eastern border and counter-mobility issues. Regional visits also included press opportunities for regional media. Since September 2025, the Ministry of Defense has established an information hotline where residents can get answers to questions about the law on the creation of counter-mobility infrastructure and the strengthening of the eastern border," the report notes.
