The National Electronic Media Council (NEPLP) has banned access to ten more websites spreading Russian propaganda, according to an official statement released by the council.
Access is restricted to the websites pobedarf.ru, vgoroden.ru, orda-info.online, baikal-daily.ru, newsomsk.ru, gubdaily.ru, gorvesti.ru, volgadmin.ru, parmanews.ru, and pulse19.ru.
NEPLP received information from a competent state institution that these websites generally disseminate one-sided and biased information about Russia's war in Ukraine, mobilizing information and public support for Russian military personnel fighting in Ukraine, as well as fostering a sense of belonging and a generally positive attitude towards Russia.
According to NEPLP and competent state authorities, this may negatively impact the cohesion of Latvian society, interethnic relations, understanding of values, residents' belonging to a unified information space, as well as solidarity and support from the Latvian state for Ukraine regarding its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Similar decisions to restrict access to portals disseminating Russian propaganda have been made by NEPLP in the past.
