The proximity of elections forces politicians to fight even harder against the Russian language, including in the cultural sphere.
Saeima Deputy Arturs Butāns from the National Alliance decided to join the renewed discussion about whether it is time to close the Mikhail Chekhov Theater. The politician wrote on the social network X: "Why does the state need to spend 3 million euros funding the Chekhov Theater in the Russian language? Meanwhile, Latvians abroad (in the diaspora) mainly finance their culture themselves.
In the establishment led by D. Bjerka, more than 20 violations related to language have been recorded, and the Cabinet rules number 130 have been violated" (The rules regulate the use of the Latvian language in the public sphere (service sector) - note by the author.).
