The President of Latvia allowed Foreign Minister Baiba Braže to publicly wear the state award of Ukraine — the Order of Merit II class, received in November last year, as stated in a publication in the official publication "Latvijas Vēstnesis," writes LETA.
The president also allowed the honorary consul of Monaco in Latvia, Maris Gruduls, to publicly wear the state award of Monaco — the Grimaldi Order, Knight's Cross, received in November last year.
The law on state awards stipulates that individuals awarded by other states may accept such awards; however, wearing them publicly is only permitted with the president's approval. At the same time, the president's permission is not required for individuals who received an award from another state during a state visit, as well as for members of the National Armed Forces awarded during active service.
An individual who has received an award from another state and wishes to wear it publicly must independently notify the Chapter of Orders.
