The Security Police received documents seized from Zhdanok's apartment in Brussels

The Security Police received documents and data carriers seized from Zhdanok's apartment in Brussels.

At the end of February, the Security Police (SP) received documents and data carriers seized from the apartment of former Member of the European Parliament Tatjana Zhdanok in Brussels, confirmed the LETA agency in the service.

The SP confirmed that a Belgian court rejected Zhdanok's complaint regarding the search conducted by the Belgian police on November 7, 2024, in her apartment in Brussels based on the SP's request for legal assistance.

The service is currently conducting a thorough analysis of the contents of the seized documents and carriers.

In the interest of the investigation, the SP did not provide more detailed comments.

As reported, at the request of the SP for legal assistance, law enforcement officers in Belgium conducted criminal procedural actions at Zhdanok's residence in Brussels in early November 2024.

The SP also confirmed that Zhdanok has been designated as a suspect in a criminal case regarding possible collaboration with Russian special services. The SP did not disclose under which article of the criminal law this status was applied or whether any preventive measures were taken.

It was also reported that in July 2024, the SP conducted investigative actions in Latvia at locations associated with Zhdanok. Procedural actions were carried out at two locations, during which data carriers, recordings, and documents were seized.

Criminal procedural actions against Zhdanok were conducted as part of a criminal case initiated on suspicion of collaboration with Russian special services.

Earlier, the SP reported that it is analyzing information about Zhdanok's possible collaboration with Russian special services from 2005 to 2013.

Until 2016, Latvian legislation did not provide for criminal liability for assisting a foreign state or foreign organization in actions against the Latvian state, so the information published in the media regarding the period from 2005 to 2013 is not classified as a crime, although, according to the SP, such actions posed a threat.

As reported by the investigative journalism center "Re:Baltica," a leak of electronic correspondence showed that Zhdanok had been reporting on her activities to employees of the Russian Federal Security Service since at least 2004 and had requested money to organize various events. Zhdanok herself denies collaborating with Russian special services.
