The war in the Middle East may drag on, so various scenarios of events are possible, said Janis Sarts, director of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence, in an interview on the TV3 program "900 Seconds."
"The Middle East is a very volatile place, a region. Moreover, it is important for the global economy, so various scenarios are possible. The most likely scenario is that this war will drag on, the export of energy resources and other resources from the region will be hindered or may not occur at all. And the conflict will spread throughout the region," said Sarts.
Israel and the United States began strikes against Iran on February 28. As a result of missile strikes and air raids, many cities in Iran were affected, including the capital Tehran. Iran launched retaliatory strikes against Israel and U.S. military facilities in the Persian Gulf region.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Tuesday that Iran will continue the fight as long as necessary, thereby questioning U.S. President Donald Trump's assertion that the conflict will end soon.
