On the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the battles at the front and in the rear, the Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia considered the issue of assistance in the reconstruction of the candidate country for the European Union. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs prepared an information message, and the Ministry of Economics reported on how 2 million euros, specifically allocated for the reconstruction of Chernihiv region, were spent.
They have boilers of a different system
Latvia's know-how turned out to be the production of container-type boiler houses, for which an open competition was announced. Initially, it seemed that such units could be made in the quantity of 25 for 1,850,000 euros; i.e., 74,000 per unit. This approximately corresponds to the upper price limit for equipment with a capacity of up to 1 megawatt, which can be used to heat, for example, a school or a small residential area.
"Before announcing the procurement procedures, the Ministry of Economics consulted with representatives of the Ukrainian side... During the development in online mode, several meetings were organized regarding the necessary technical parameters for the boiler houses and the conditions for their installation. During the negotiations, it was noted that the conditions for connecting the boiler houses to the existing heating systems actually differ at each site, so the technical specification was developed with maximum standardization of conditions."
However, unfortunately: "The organized open competitive procedures... ended without results, as significant discrepancies with the requirements were found in all received proposals. Neither SIA EcoHeat Technologies nor even the Ukrainian 'KOMINVEST' succeeded in boiler construction.
Sofa ammunition
Then they took the path of small deeds, and – hooray! – SIA Sentios won the competition to supply 27 folding sofas to Ukraine for 29,399.37 euros, including value-added tax. This company is a local branch of the Lithuanian UAB Sentios and previously supplied furniture to the Kandava Agricultural Technical School.
SIA J.E.F., known for producing custom furniture, also enjoyed commercial success (let's emphasize – at the expense of Latvian taxpayers), and the allied state received 23 wardrobes, 23 double beds with mattresses, 35 single beds, 23 dining tables, and 92 chairs. A total of 86,292.41 euros was paid, including VAT. And not expensive.
But in general, the idea of exporting Latvian furniture to Ukraine seems quite exotic. Like oil supplies to Iran.
In any case, the money remained. And now, Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis, so that the good does not go to waste, decides to send 680,000 euros from the supposedly peaceful reconstruction program of Chernihiv for drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
But, again, the drones will be made here, on the spot. "Accordingly, to support Ukraine and simultaneously support the growth and development of the local industry in Latvia." The Cabinet of Ministers will approve this decision today, most likely unanimously.
