Foreign policy debates have begun in the Saeima.
Today, the annual foreign policy debates are taking place in the Latvian Parliament. Traditionally, they were opened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs with a report on the results of the 2025 foreign policy goals and Latvia's priorities in foreign policy for the current year. Following Baiba Braže (New Unity), the Speaker of the Saeima, Daiga Mierina (Union of Greens and Farmers), took the podium and admitted in her speech: "At the moment when the Chairman of the U.S. Congress and the Chairman of the Parliament of Israel approached me with a request to sign a letter calling for Mr. Trump to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, I had no doubt - this needed to be done! The U.S. has been and remains our strategic partner!"
The Prime Minister, Evika Siliņa (New Unity), will also outline her vision of the foreign policy situation from the podium of the Saeima, followed by the Chairwoman of the Saeima Foreign Affairs Commission, Ināra Mūrniece (National Alliance).
The debates may last for several hours, as by this point, 45 people have already signed up to participate... alongside the deputies, there are also ministers. And it is clear that this list will continue to grow.
