The expert believes that Europe should be ready for a tariff war with the U.S.
Andis Kudors, a lecturer at the University of Latvia and political scientist, reacted quite emotionally during a discussion on Latvian Radio to Donald Trump's recent statements regarding Greenland and more.
"Europe must show the whip this time. We need to speak to Trump in his own language, and money is significant for him, as is how he looks.
The United States remains an important partner for the European Union, including in the military sphere. But everything has its limits. Denmark is also our friend. And I fondly remember that Iceland and Denmark were the first two countries to recognize Latvia's independence, and it's already too crazy to throw around words like that.
Trump's behavior is incomparable to other U.S. presidents. And from a political science perspective, it's very difficult to assess such unconventional politics.
But when the West stands against the West – that's the saddest thing. And in the Kremlin, they are uncorking champagne because this is what Putin has long wanted," Kudors stated, noting that if necessary, Europe should respond with its tariffs.
"What was Trump's tariff attack on China like? Very loud, effective, and then quietly, somewhere behind the scenes, we learned that China was responding, and Trump starts to retreat, he is not succeeding. He quietly steps back. I think this is a good moment for Europe not to be so soft and to show that we can do something," Kudors believes.
