The Secretary General of the Latvian Transatlantic Organization (LATO), Sigita Struberg, expressed the opinion in the TV24 program "Globuss" that the future of Latvia's defense relies on both transatlantic partnership and closer cooperation with like-minded countries in Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea region, writes LA.LV.
According to her, the most important thing is that U.S. President Donald Trump has not refused to provide assistance to the Baltic states. Struberg notes that Latvia's perspective is not overly simplistic. If we look at how defense issues in Latvia are currently being considered, it is clear that a great deal of attention is being paid to regional cooperation — both with northern neighbors and with like-minded countries throughout the Baltic region.
"I think an interesting format that could potentially develop is the Nordic countries, the Baltics, Poland, and Germany. When talking about groups of like-minded countries in the region, there is also a certain potential here," she stated.
Struberg emphasizes that regional cooperation does not mean a rejection of transatlantic partnership.
