Build your house peacefully! "New Unity" failed to strike out the "dangerous" amendment

The Saeima's Commission on State Administration and Local Government supported the urgent adoption of the bill. The decisive vote is already this Thursday.

Some time ago, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted rules that, as part of the fight against the shadow economy, required residents of Latvia who decided to build a house or other real estate to provide information about the origin of the financial resources used in construction to the electronic construction information system. Members of the Saeima from the Union of Greens and Farmers concluded that such a requirement creates unjustified obstacles for residents in exercising their right to build a house. Moreover, fulfilling this requirement is quite problematic - construction can take years, during which the sources of financial resources may change, the construction process itself may become more expensive, and other circumstances may arise. To relieve potential home builders from the need to prove the origin of funds, the "green farmers" prepared a corresponding amendment to the Construction Law: "When submitting an application to fulfill the conditions for starting construction work, the developer - an individual - is not required to indicate information about the origin of the planned financing for construction in the construction information system."

"New Unity" did not like this amendment, and deputies from this faction proposed... to simply strike out this amendment. However, today the majority of deputies rejected the proposal from the prime minister's party and supported the advancement of the bill in its original form. Already on Thursday, at the last plenary session of this year, parliamentarians are expected to approve the adoption of the bill in its final reading. Since the law has a higher status than the Cabinet's rules, the government will also have to amend the rules, removing the requirement to indicate the source of funds for construction.
