Residents of Kengarags are outraged: barely finishing construction and laying new asphalt, workers began to break it up again. Riga's Vice Mayor Maris Sprindžuks acknowledged that such a situation is abnormal and admitted that there may be mistakes in the project's implementation.
Maris Sprindžuks, Deputy Chairman of the Riga City Council, commented on a complaint from a resident of Kengarags regarding the situation that arose after the extension of tram line No. 7 during a broadcast on TV24. According to the woman, after the construction work was completed, new road surfaces were laid, pedestrian crossings and traffic lights were installed, but soon workers began to break up the recently laid asphalt again.
"When you ask the workers, they say that someone in the Riga City Council decided to change something. Everything is being redone and redone. But this is taxpayer money. Why is this happening?" the woman asked.
Sprindžuks admitted that he did not have detailed information about the specific site, but suggested that mistakes could be the reason. "I can't say for sure. Obviously, there is some reason — either the builder mixed something up, or the work was not done according to the technical project. But this should not happen," the vice-mayor stated.
As BB.lv already reported, on June 1, a new tram ring and mobility point were opened in Kengarags.
