The Ministry of Defense will purchase land in Riga on Ezermalas Street for 347,000 euros and will also occupy the former building of the Satversme Protection Bureau (BZS) on Miera Street, according to declassified documents submitted to the government.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the 1.26-hectare plot in the complex of administrative buildings on Ezermalas Street already houses several institutions of the ministries of defense and internal affairs - the Latvian National Defense Academy, the Military Police, the National Armed Forces Communication School, the Medical Support Center, and the State Police College.
The Cabinet of Ministers also decided to transfer the administrative and service building at 85 Miera Street to the Ministry of Defense, where the BZS was located for many years before moving last year to the renovated premises of the former military hospital near the former Brasa prison.
The ministry did not comment to LETA on the exact purpose of the building but confirmed that the property will be used for the needs of the defense sector.
