A negative example is the house at Marijas Street 6, which has been in disrepair since the 1990s. In 1999, the windows on the first floor of the building were bricked up. In 2008, there was a fire there, and a year later, the window cornice collapsed.
In 2015, the house at the intersection of Marijas and Elizabetes Streets was officially designated as a property that deteriorates the urban environment.
Three years later, the Riga City Council decided to enforce the building's restoration. However, over the past ten years, significant progress in addressing the issue has not been achieved.
The building is privately owned and is rumored to belong to some Estonian millionaire. Therefore, increased taxes do not frighten him. But for the elderly women living out their days in other Riga slums, such a regulation would be a real disaster.
