Rinkēvičs is not very optimistic about the end of the war in Ukraine next year

There is currently little optimism that peace in the war waged by Russia against Ukraine will be achieved in the near future, including that 2026 will be the year when a breakthrough will occur that leads to the end of the war, said Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs in an interview with TV3.

The president said that all peace efforts are currently hindered by Russia's unwillingness to reach an agreement unless Ukraine essentially capitulates, but such a scenario is impossible for Ukraine and the West.

Therefore, the West must continue to exert maximum economic pressure on Russia, continue military support for Ukraine, and work with Ukraine and Moldova to bring them closer to Europe, Rinkēvičs said.

The president believes that in the foreseeable future, the West will also come to a decision regarding the use of frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine.
