The Saeima Commission will continue the heated debate on the right-wing opposition's initiative for Latvia to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention.
Tomorrow, a traditional autumn ceremony will take place in the Saeima - the solemn presentation of the budget proposal for the next year by the Minister of Finance to the Speaker of the Saeima and the head of the Saeima's Budget, Taxes, and Finance Commission. It is expected that the budget proposal for 2026, as well as the main parameters of the budget for 2026, 2027, and 2028, along with a package of related bills, may be approved by the parliament in the first reading on Thursday, meaning that all these bills will be forwarded to parliamentary committees.
Tomorrow, there will also be heated discussions in the Foreign Affairs Commission regarding the initiative for Latvia to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention. Most likely, the debates will drag on again, and the matter may not even reach a vote to support the corresponding bill in the first reading.
Members of the Requests Commission will hear from the Minister of the Interior, Rihards Kozlovskis, who has been summoned to the parliament in connection with a request from the National Alliance regarding what they believe is an excessively long consideration of the issue of revoking Petr Aven's citizenship of Latvia.
Additionally, a joint meeting of the Legal Commission and the Commission on Education, Science, and Culture will take place, where the representatives of the people will discuss the government's report on achievements and plans to strengthen the position of the state language in Latvia.
Members of the Defense and Internal Affairs Commission will return to reviewing hundreds of proposals for a new immigration bill. In particular, the deputies will consider the proposal to once again include in the law the possibility of obtaining a residence permit in exchange for investments in real estate.
