Currently, the business plan of the Latvian national airline airBaltic is still being coordinated, the chairman of the airline's board, Andrey Martynov, reported on Monday after a meeting with Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs.

"This conversation left a positive impression, as the government representatives have developed an objective understanding of the business plan and the future of the company," said Martynov.

When asked whether state investments would be needed in the near future, Martynov replied that "it is currently difficult to judge."

"The government's plan to retain 25% of the airline's shares is still in effect. This means that, most likely, the government will also have to somehow participate in attracting new capital," said Martynov.

He acknowledged that the statement in the airline's annual report that additional funding of between 100 and 150 million euros will be required to finance the operations of airBaltic in the winter season of 2026/2027 is still valid and has not been canceled.

Martynov also stated that the situation in the Middle East, including the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, is a positive event for the airline, as fuel prices are likely to decrease. At the same time, the stock prices of other airlines have risen, which is also a good signal.

Kulbergs, after meeting with representatives of airBaltic, said that he had previously lacked a broader vision of the company's activities, but now, having familiarized himself with the available information and historical data, he has a clearer understanding of the situation.
