After the loud training flights of military aircraft that took place on Friday afternoon, which caught many residents of Riga off guard and frightened them, no party took responsibility for the insufficient information provided to the public.
The National Armed Forces (NAF) clarified that the flights, which disturbed the peace of citizens on Friday, were not related to the NAF or the NATO air policing mission in the Baltics. The flights were part of the preparation for the "Baltic International Airshow 2026" and were conducted by aircraft from the air forces of NATO countries, invited by the organizers.
After receiving questions from the public, the NAF supported the communication of the event organizers by posting on the "X" platform to inform residents about the already conducted and planned training flights. In the comments section of the post, users expressed criticism regarding the delayed information to the public.
As confirmed by "Delfi", the organizer of the airshow, Arturs Schlossbergs, stated that on Friday afternoon, training flights of the Hungarian Air Force fighter "Saab JAS-39C Gripen" and the Slovenian Air Force aircraft "Pilatus PC-9M Hudournik" took place over Riga. Regarding the notification of the public, Schlossbergs reported that the organizers informed the Riga City Council so that it could further inform the public, but apparently, they "did not notify, although they usually did inform"...
The absurdity intensified...
