Святая Акулина

June 26, 2026 marks the day of Saint Akilina, who suffered during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian.

What is remembered in the Church on June 26, 2026

Akilina (or the more common variant - Akulina) was born in the Phoenician city of Byblos. She was raised in Christian piety and strictly observed all the rules prescribed by her faith.

At the age of 12, the girl began to preach, persuading her pagan friends to turn to Christ. One of the servants of the governor Volusian heard this and reported the child to the ruler. The girl was brought to trial, but even there she firmly confessed her faith. Then Akilina was sentenced to torture, and when she fell silent, thinking that the girl had died, they ordered her to be thrown to the dogs outside the city. But the animals did not touch the child, and at night an angel appeared to her and said, "Get up and be healthy and expose the worthless intentions of Volusian."

The girl went to the governor's palace. And upon seeing the holy Akilina, the governor fell into terrible fear. In the morning, he issued a death sentence against her. The girl was killed, and her relics turned out to be incorrupt. Later, they were transferred to Constantinople, where a temple was built in her honor.
