The main construction work on the overpass from Tvaika Street to Kundzinshala has been completed, the LETA agency was informed by the external communications department of the Riga City Council.
The structures of the overpass and viaducts have been erected, and the top layer of asphalt pavement has been laid along almost the entire length of the engineering structure, which is 863.5 m long. Most of the transport infrastructure provided by the project has also been built.
Since the beginning of June, almost 2000 tons of asphalt have been laid on the top layer of the overpass. Currently, work is ongoing on the asphalt paving of Tvaika Street and the new road network in the adjacent area.
The project provides for the creation of a new transport connection between Tvaika Street, Kundzinshala, and the territory of the Riga Free Port. The overpass crosses the Sarkandaugava strait, three railway tracks, and an overhead oil pipeline, and connects with the previously constructed Daudersalas overpass.
The overpass is designed to have two lanes of traffic in each direction, as well as infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. The project includes the construction of sidewalks, elevators, and stairs, the installation of technical traffic management devices, the creation of a stormwater drainage system, and the improvement of the adjacent territory.
Today, load testing of the overpass has begun - one of the final stages of the construction process. During the tests, specially loaded trucks are placed on the viaduct, and engineers take the necessary measurements and check the strength of the structures.
The results of the tests will confirm the readiness of the structure for the next stages of commissioning.
At the same time, work continues on the arrangement of road infrastructure, the installation of barriers, and the improvement of the area.
Considering the complexity of the project and the objective technical circumstances that arose during construction, the deadline for completion has been extended to October 8, 2026. After the construction is completed and all necessary checks are carried out, the overpass is planned to be put into operation and opened for traffic in the fall of this year.
The construction work is being carried out by the general partnership "RK Link," which includes LLC "Binders," LLC "Tilts," and LLC "Hanza Construction Group."
The total cost of the project is 82.6 million euros, of which 23 million euros are allocated as a grant from the state budget, and 59.6 million euros are borrowed funds. In addition, the project received co-financing from European Union funds in the amount of 4.5 million euros.
